Anti - Bullying & Domestic Violence Awareness

In May, I was privileged to be the Emcee for two very special events.  The first was Purse Power ~ where celebrity purses were silently auctioned and designer purses were raffled.  Over $5000.00 was raised to bring "Rachel's Challenge" to our schools.  If you haven't viewed the video for "Rachel's Challenge" I would encourage you to do so.  She was the first victim in the Columbine shooting.   Kids especially need to know that we are there and that we care.  It is a difficult subject however having had a bully for 2 years in school, I have been there.  I find that it is always easier to relate to others that have been right where you are.  Please learn the signs, be there and show you care.

Which brings me to the other special event where I was honored to be the Emcee.  "Home Grown" ~ featuring local farmers raising local foods being used by local chefs.  What a winner!  This event raised over $20,000.00 with all proceeds going to "The Shelter" ~ raising awareness for domestic violence.  Did you know that one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime?  I was one.  Prevention and education about domestic violence needs to start early because girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence.  73% of domestic violence incidents go unreported.  Please be there and show you care.  Know the signs of domestic violence.  Don't be afraid to be a friend.

Also in May, it was such a pleasure to be the director of a beautiful wedding, the uniting of a gorgeous bride and her handsome groom.  How exciting it is to see life through the eyes of a new bride and groom.  A brand new beginning.....faces that glow with each smile.  Excitement was in the air as two wonderful people began their life together as one.   During the prayer, I couldn't help but notice that the birds had even joined in the happiness.  When we open our eyes, our ears and our hearts....we can then experience the love all around us and those who need us.

Wherever you are....be there and show you care.  Don't be afraid ~ be a friend.
